Alan Richter

Born: Feb. 27, 1927 - Oct. 29, 2017
The shortstop had a brief career with Boston after leading the Eastern League in fielding at his position in 1948 and 1949. Called up on Sept. 20, 1951, he collected one hit in 11 at bats for the Red Sox, though he had a .286 on-base percentage because he also drew three walks. Richter went on to play four more years in the minors before retiring. He went on to complete his degree in business at Miami.

Did You Know?
After his career, Richter hosted a Sunday television show in Norfolk, Va., for six years, “Spotlight on Sports.”
