A nephew of big leaguer Sam Nahem, Silvera had a short stint with Cincinnati. He was signed in 1955 as a $20,000 “Bonus Baby” who the Redlegs were required to keep on their roster all season. At the age of 19, he collected 1 hit in 7 at-bats that season. He then appeared in only 1 game in 1956 and did not get an at-bat.
Did You Know?
At Southern Cal, Silvera batted .405 with 14 homers including five grand slams.
